Oak Hill High School has a Special Education Instructional Assistant position available for the current (2024-25) school year. This position will involve being an instructional assistant at Oak Hill High School working with high school students in the special education program to assist them throughout their school day. Other supervision duties will be assigned as needed.
Purpose of the Position:
- Assist in the education of students with disabilities to ensure that student needs are met in the least restrictive environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- Meet particular requirements of local, state, and federal programs, especially in terms of confidentiality.
- Must attend and successfully complete Crisis Prevention/De-escalation and restraint training.
- Effective communication skills Essential Functions of the Position:
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher in a resource, separate or general education setting.
- Assist students with academic & behavioral deficit skills as determined by the instructional leader
- Maintain documentation & records as determined by the principal, teacher of record Ability to relate to students in a non-confrontational manner while maintaining established standards of behavior as determined by the instructional leader.
- Assist teachers in implementing an individualized education program for each student including accommodations and modifications.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow guidelines of Article 7 & FERPA or HIPPA in relation to student information.
- Other duties as assigned by Teacher of Record, Principal or Department of Special Services as part of a student’s IEP.
Secondary Functions of the Position:
- Preparation of instructional materials.
- Assist students with personal care skills as determined by IEP.
- Supervise students in the hall, restroom or classroom in teacher absence.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
- Assist students with classroom work as required by the IEP.
- Take responsibility and perform responsible and difficult work assisting students with behavioral or learning goals.
- Utilize applicable software applications (Microsoft Office, On-line employment portal, etc…)
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
- Interpret and follow oral and written instructions with attentiveness to detail.
- Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.
- Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff.
