Description

Sweetser Elementary School is seeking a caring, dedicated, and student-centered individual to serve as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. This position provides instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities under the direction of special education teachers and school administrators.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or the ability to meet Indiana paraprofessional requirements preferred but not required. 
  • Experience working with children, particularly students with disabilities, is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist students individually and in small groups with academic tasks and instructional activities.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the direction of certified staff.
  • Reinforce instructional concepts and accommodations as directed by the special education teacher.
  • Assist with behavior management strategies and social-emotional skill development.
  • Monitor and supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other school settings.
  • Collect and maintain student data as directed.
  • Assist students with organizational skills, transitions, and daily routines.
  • Support students with personal care needs when necessary.
  • Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom organization.
  • Participate in professional development and training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervising teacher.
